First Tomato Rotation Transplanted!

Here’s some video of how our tomato beds are looking. We ended up with more than 800 gorgeous plants. Seriously, they look great.

At the beginning of the video you can see Teal spraying organic fish-based fertilizer on the potted plants. Meanwhile, Niels is laying a drip tape system over the mulched beds, which we then cover in a non-toxic plastic. Then the planting!

We had more than 800 tomato plants! Not all of them could fit in the beds, but most of them are in the ground and looking great!

Irrigation & Tomatoes: The Beds Are Done!

We spent most of the day preparing beds for the excellent varieties of tomatoes that are now bursting to get out of their pots. Quick video of the drip irrigation coming soon, but here are some photos for now.

First there was the mulch piles for 10 beds…

Then connecting and running lines over each bed…

And then running huge sheets of non-toxic cover, shoveling soil along the edges to keep everything in place.

Meanwhile, Rafi decided to sit this one out.

We were all quite tired by the end of the day, but we got it all done!

Delicious tomatoes, coming right up!

Sustainable Family Dinner Table

Root Force had the opportunity to attend the Sustainable Family Dinner Table event this week in Beaverdam, Virginia. The event featured many local vendors, DIY workshops and lectures on various aspects of sustainable agriculture, including a keynote address from Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms. We got to meet a large portion of the organic farming community and have some great conversations.
